Seton Catholic hires Matt Conboy, Mountain View hires Osa Esene as boys basketball coaches
Seton Catholic and Mountain View have hired new boys basketball head coaches, dipping into the club scene to find two coaches with a wealth of experience.
Seton Catholic has hired Matt Conboy, who replaces Hayden Tilton. Tilton spent one season as the Cougars' head coach, Seton assistant athletic director Kristi Burton announced.
Mountain View hired Osadonor "Osa" Esene to replace J.C. Alexander, who stepped down after nine seasons to become the head coach at Hudson's Bay.
Conboy is a 2001 graduate of Prairie High School and a former NAIA All-American at Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Conboy brings more than 15 years of experience in coaching and player development. He has directed camps, clinics and player development programs in the United States, China, Australia and Poland.
He currently owns and operates Conboy Basketball training center in Vancouver and the Northwest Reign basketball travel team. He also serves as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Basketball area director for Greater Portland.
"Matt and his wife, Ashley, are passionate about serving young people and investing in their community through faith, mentorship and leadership development," Burton said. "He is excited to join the Seton Catholic community and continue building relationships with students, families, faculty, alumni and supporters."
Esene joins the Mountain View program after serving as head coach at Centennial High School in Gresham, Ore., and Franklin in Portland. He also was the head coach at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore., for one season.
Esene graduated from Adventist High School in Inglewood, Calif., and was a standout player at Hawaii-Hilo. After graduating from Hawaii-Hilo, he earned his Master's in coaching at Concordia University of Irvine, Calif.
He played four years playing professionally in Germany before getting into coaching.
Esene is the founder and owner of Ball Out PDX, an AAU youth basketball club in the Portland metro area. He also spent three years as a coach and basketball academy coordinator for All in One Basketball in Portland.
