Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Taunts New York Before NBA Finals

The 2026 NBA Finals are pitting New York against Texas.

Two of America's biggest and boldest states will be facing off in the 2026 NBA Finals, which begin on Wednesday night. The San Antonio Spurs, coming off a Game 7 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, will be taking on Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks, who swept the Cavs, 4-0, in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Heading into Game 1 on Wednesday night, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a taunting message to New York and its governor, Kathy Hochul, posting an AI-created image to his social media accounts.

Abbott took to his account on X.

"Spurs about to dunk on Knicks like Texas has been dunking on New York. Go Spurs Go 🔥👽," he wrote.

Hochul made embarrassing gaffe before NBA Finals

Prior to the NBA Finals, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul attempted to taunt U.S. President Donald Trump, asking him to name the starting lineup from the last time the Knicks won it all.

"I'd ask him to name the starting lineup of the 1993 championship team and see how he does," Hochul told reporters.

However, the Knicks did not win the championship in 1993. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls did. Instead, the Knicks last won it all in 1973.

Perhaps all politicians should just stay out of sports trash talk, at least for now.

Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals is scheduled for Wednesday night. The Spurs will be hosting the Knicks in San Antonio for the first two games of the series.
