49ers Make Late Change to Mac Jones' Contract Before 2026 Season
Earlier this offseason San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted he was surprised no one made a trade offer for backup quarterback Mac Jones.
"I'd be real surprised if he's not [part of the team]," Shanahan said. "It also really surprised me that no one came and offered something today. But that fact that no one did, doesn't make me think that someone's going to do something tomorrow, and his value has probably passed anyways."
Just over a month later, Jones has a new contract with the team ahead of the 2026 season, which will be his second in San Francisco.

“The 49ers and QB Mac Jones agreed to a revised contract for this season, adding a $300,000 roster bonus. Jones is now set to make $3.55M in 2026, with another $2.25M available in incentives, before he's scheduled to hit free agency next March,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero said.
Jones replaced an injured Brock Purdy in 11 games during the 2025 season, throwing for 2,151 yards while completing nearly 70% of his passes. He threw for 13 touchdowns and six interceptions as the team went 5-3 in his starts.
The former No. 15 overall pick of the New England Patriots can make up to $5.8 million during the 2026 season.
