Danica Patrick Defends Her Indy 500 Outfit Amid Backlash
Danica Patrick took to Instagram to defend her Indy 500 outfit amid the growing backlash to it online.
Patrick, who raced in several Indy 500s during her career, faced criticism from some online, for her outfit choice at the iconic U.S. race. Patrick wore a one-shoulder red dress at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. Patrick was part of FOX's coverage for the race.
But some found Patrick's outfit to be too over-the-top for the setting.
"I've been a fan of Danica since the Letterman days. Why does she have to dress so ridiculously? Doesn't she have anyone in her life to say ‘that's really over the top for race coverage?'" one fan wrote.
"Danica Patrick looks ridiculous. She's dressed like she's going clubbing instead of the Indy 500," another added.
One said: "Danica Patrick vying for the Ashley Judd worst dressed ever at the Indy 500 award."
But Patrick is standing by her dress.
The former IndyCar and NASCAR driver highlighted it on her Instagram Story on Monday evening, sending a clear message to her critics: she likes the dress and doesn't care what others think.
Patrick doubled down, sharing it to her Instagram feed on Monday evening, as well.
"Being at the @indianapolismotorspeedway never gets old. Its magical. ✨ The race was unreal. 70 lead changes, the closest finish in its 110 year history and a one lap restart to finish the race!!!!!! 🏁," she wrote.
"Thank you @indycaronfox for having me, it was a blast! It was also good to see so many familiar faces that helped shape my life into what it is and hang my family who all live here! ❤️"
Patrick receives support from some
Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s wife, Amy, was among those to praise Patrick for her outfit, writing: "Foxy lady! 🔥."
Others, meanwhile, praised Patrick for the dress choice.
"STUNNING 🔥," one shared.
"Beautiful dress choice. Don't mind the haters," one added.
"Stunning! I appreciated your comments on race day! Total class and positive energy!" one fan shared.
Patrick is expected to be back on FOX later this year for more IndyCar and NASCAR coverage.
