Tributes Pour In After Women's College Basketball Player Is Killed at 20

Tributes are pouring in after a women's college basketball player has been killed at 20 years old.

Emily Smith, a sophomore business major and women's college basketball player SUNY Potsdam, was killed in a car accident on campus. She was reportedly the victim of an alleged hit and run. Smith was reportedly struck by a black Cadillac shortly after 3 a.m. E.T. on Saturday.

An 18-year-old has since been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident.

Tributes for Smith, who played in close to 20 games last season, are pouring in online.

The school released a statement.

"The SUNY Potsdam community is mourning the tragic loss of Emily Smith, a sophomore business administration major and member of the Potsdam Bears women's basketball team," they wrote.

"Emily was a talented student-athlete, teammate, friend and leader whose impact was deeply felt across campus. Our hearts are with her family, friends, teammates, coaches and all who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time.

"Jerry Welsh Gymnasium is serving as a memorial space for members of the campus community to leave flowers or messages in Emily's memory. πŸ»πŸ’™πŸ€."

Fans and friends and family members are understandably devastated.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
