1A District Softball: Seton Catholic rallies back to take third place, clinch state berth
May 16-CENTRALIA - After getting shut out in the district semifinals, the Seton Catholic bats came alive in the consolation round as the Cougars won a pair of routs to clinch a berth to the 1A state softball tournament.
Violet Price held Seton to just two hits in a 3-0 win for Montesano over the Cougars in the 1A District 1-4 semifinals Saturday at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.
The Cougars bounced back to rout Nooksack Valley 13-0 in a consolation game that clinched a state berth for Seton.
Jocelyn Kender threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 15. Addie Seymer went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI.
The Cougars took home a third-place trophy with a 14-2 win over Lynden Christian. Kingsley Williams went 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBI, and Jocely Kender was 2 for 5 with a triple, home run and five RBI for Seton.
COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 17, NOOKSACK VALLEY 12 - Joella Posini hit for the cycle as Columbia clinched a berth to the 1A state tournament.
Posini went 4 for 5 with a double, triple, home run and four RBI for the Bruins. Halle Kock and Kiera Bucher both went 4 for 5, and Danica Herman went 3 for 4 with a home run and seven RBI.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 17, COLUMBIA 0 - Halle Kock, McKena Carlock, Danica Herman and Madison Russum collected hits for the Bruins in a consolation bracket loss.
COLUMBIA 10, HOQUIAM 8 - Julia Mullinix went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI as the Bruins survived a loser-out game.
COLUMBIA 13, KING'S WAY CHRISTIAN 7 - Julia Mullinix and Joella Posini hit home runs as the Bruins opened the day with a loser-out win over the Knights.
Makena Vick went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and five RBI for King's Way.
