Tenino won its first matchup at the 1A District 1/4 Tournament on Friday at Fort Borst Park in Centralia, but the Beavers dropped their next two matchups and were knocked out of the district tournament.

Despite having a 9 a.m. start, Tenino raced out to a lead in its first game, a Round of 12 matchup against Kalama.

The Beavers opened the scoring with a run on a groundout, Tamara Snodderly hit an RBI single, and Macie Scharber hit an RBI double to put Tenino up 3-0 in the first.

Three straight RBI singles from Jaeleen Woodward, Kylie Gonia, and Chloe Grayless doubled the advantage in the second. Kalama got on the board in the bottom of the second, but the 6-1 scoreline held into the sixth.

The Chinooks started to show life in the sixth, scoring three runs to get within three, and they scored two more runs in the seventh to get within one.

With two on and two out in the final frame, a bloop single should have tied the game, but the Kalama runner at second didn't take off on contact and was forced to stay at third. A pop out to short ended the game.

In the quarterfinals, the Beavers fell to No. 2 Elma 16-1, scoring only on an RBI fielder's choice from Snodderly.

Even with the quarterfinal loss, Tenino still had a chance to make it to Saturday with a win in an elimination game at 5 p.m.

Tenino was in that game though five innings, as it only trailed by one, but the Pioneers blew the game open with a seven-run sixth and went on to win 12-5.

Grayless went 2 for 4 and drove in two runs, and both Georgia Gore and Preslee Fisher drove in runs.

With a win, Tenino would have played at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and a win there would have left them with two chances to pick up one more win to secure a state spot.

Instead, the Beavers finish their season 9-15 overall and will graduate four seniors: Scharber, Woodward, Grayless, and Snodderly.
