The Centralia College softball team have been coming away with splits for much of the season, but used a high-octane offense followed by lights out pitching to take an NWAC doubleheader against Grays Harbor by 12-4 and 4-2 verdicts at home on Tuesday.
No team other than Lower Columbia has clinched a spot in the NWAC Championship bracket from the South division, down to 12 teams this spring. CC (21-19, 13-17 NWAC South) is sixth with two games left. It made the tournament last year as the No. 13 seed and a seventh place division finish.
Game 1 featured at least a run in all five innings. Gracie Schofield and Ava Hernandez notched run-scoring singles in the first, Lena Fragner led the third frame off with a solo home run and the Blazers broke the game open with a five-run fourth.
Schofield and Hernandez each roped RBI doubles and Michaela Dueck capped the frame with a sacrifice fly. Schofield, Fragner and Hernandez all finished with multiple hits and multiple RBIs in the victory.
In the circle, Hernandez went the distance and worked around seven hits and three walks to nab the win.
The nightcap featured a shutdown performance from Emma Hoffmeister, striking out 12 and only gave up one earned run, four hits and four walks. CC provided her with all the run support in the bottom of the third.
Natalie Loose cranked a two-run home run then Fragner ripped a two-run single. All of the runs came with two outs. Grays Harbor crept to within two runs, but Hoffmeister turned a double play with the bases loaded in the sixth to preserve the win.
Schofield and Makayla Chavez each had two hits for the Trailblazers.
