Two Mat Cats take gold at Slam Fest
May 1-The Twin City Wrestling Club competed at the Washington State Wrestling Association Slam Fest Wrestling Tournament in Fife last weekend, and two Mat Cats picked up victories.
Camden Maine won gold at the U10 Greco 77-84 pound division, and Hunter Rice finished on top in the U12 Greco 98-pound bracket.
Rice finished with the most Greco points of any Mat Cat with 26, while Jace Hanson scored 30 to lead the team in freestyle.
Seven Mat Cats finished second: Carter Coates (U10 FS 77 and U10 GR 77-84), Maine (U10 FS 84), Hanson (U12 FS 82), Rice (U12 FS 98), Ryker Roberts (U12 FS 117), and Chance Swartz (U12 GR 78).
Two Mat Cats, Hanson (U12 GR 82-86) and Kaiden Coates (U16 FS 144), took third.
Three notched a fourth-place finish: Swartz (U12 FS 82 and U12 GR 82-86) and Natasha Hicks (Girls Grades FS 130).
Darius White (U10 GR 105 and U10 FS 105) notched a pair of fifth-place finishes.
Next up for the Mat Cats is the WSWA Freestyle/Greco State Tournament at The Podium in Spokane on Saturday and Sunday.
