Caitlin Clark Shares Injury Update After Loss to Dallas Wings
The Indiana Fever lost Caitlin Clark to what appeared to be a leg injury in the third quarter of Thursday's preseason game.
The Fever played their first preseason contest at home in front of a packed crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The result did not go in their favor, though. The Dallas Wings came and conquered, securing a 95-80 win to hand the Fever their first loss in the preseason.
The bigger concern, however, is about Clark. The two-time All-Star seemed to have tweaked her ankle/leg in the third quarter after landing awkwardly on a three-point attempt. Wings forward Allana Smith was assessed with a flagrant foul for impeding Clark's landing space.
Clark was still able to take her free throws after the incident, going 2-of-3. However, she quickly checked out of the game and was replaced by rookie Raven Johnson.
Clark was seen getting checked by the medical team on the bench. She did not have to go to the locker room, but was unable to return for the rest of the game.
Clark spoke to the media after the game to provide an update on her injury status. The 24-year-old revealed that she landed really hard on her kneecap, per Chloe Peterson of Indianapolis Star. Clark did not seem too worried, though, saying, "I feel good."
Clark finished with 21 points on 4-of-6 shooting and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. She added two rebounds, four assists, a steal and two triples in 16 minutes of action. The former Rookie of the Year had a hot start in this one, scoring 14 points in the first quarter.
The Fever have one more preseason game scheduled. They will host the Nigeria Women's National Team at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday. At this point, Clark's status for that one can be considered uncertain.
Indiana will open its regular season on May 9 with a rematch against the Wings.
