Letter: Rethink the sale and use of fireworks in Richland

I have lived in Richland for more than 60 years. While I truly enjoy fireworks displays on the Fourth, this year’s fireworks were way out of hand — hour after hour of boom, bang, boom.

It seems some don’t realize how disturbing loud, and/or illegal blasting, until midnight or later is. Such continuous noise is very disturbing to many people, such as aging veterans, people with disabling illnesses, and the elderly who require a good night’s sleep, among others. And then — our animals — many are extremely anxious, some even when given a tranquilizer.

It is time to rethink the sale, acquisition and use of fireworks in the city of Richland. More importantly, perhaps those celebrating could be a little more concerned about the the welfare of everyone.
