Letter: Why do postal letters have to go to Spokane and back?

I have never quite understood why a letter dropped off at the Pasco post office has to be sent to Spokane before coming back to be delivered in the Tri-Cities.

It seems to me, considering the current messed-up situation at the Spokane facility, causing mail to be sent on to Seattle and then back to the Tri-Cities, that it might be a good idea to consider putting the Pasco mail handling facility, that has been sitting empty for a couple of years, back in service. It would be more efficient and provide job opportunities for local people.

Would it do any good to suggest this to our two senators? Or perhaps Dan Newhouse, our local representative, would like to look into the possibility of bring the Pasco post office back into full operation. What do you think?
