Seattle weather: Heat advisory ahead for Western WA

This may be the first official week of summer, but forecasters don't expect springtime weather to leave Western Washington without a fight.

A three-day heat wave kicked off Monday morning, but that will be followed by three days of expected cool, wet weather starting Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

Tuesday, we'll almost set a record high (temperature); then on Friday, we'll be close to setting a record low high temperature for the day," meteorologist Dana Felton said Monday morning. "I don't think we're going to get there, but we're going to be close.

Highs climbed to 86 degrees Monday near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The next two days should bring similar but slightly hotter weather, with a high of 87 possible on Tuesday and 86 on Wednesday at the airport, according to forecasters.

The weather agency issued a heat advisory for the period between 1 a.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Wednesday for most of Western Washington, warning that high temperatures could put people and pets at increased risk of heat-related illnesses. People - especially those sensitive to heat or working outside - should remember to drink water, take frequent rest breaks in a shady or air-conditioned place and call 911 if they feel any symptoms of heat stroke, according to the advisory.

Cool, showery weather is expected to return to Seattle starting Thursday, with highs staying in the low 70s before dropping into the mid-50s overnight, Felton said. Showers will likely begin sometime after 11 p.m. Thursday and continue into the weekend, with highs peaking in the mid-60s on Friday and Saturday.
