Seattle light rail delayed by vehicle on elevated tracks

Sound Transit's 1 Line trains were delayed for hours Tuesday evening because of a vehicle on the tracks at Mount Baker Station.

That disruption around 6:15 p.m. included a suspension of 1 Line service from Stadium Station to Othello Station, just before first pitch of the Seattle Mariners game against the New York Mets, according to the agency.

Yes, there is a motor vehicle on the track, Sound Transit spokesperson Amy Enbysk said.

Mount Baker Station is elevated 35 feet above ground level, suggesting the car drove on the tracks for a while before coming to a halt on the platform.

Trains were still going from Lynnwood City Center Station to Stadium Station, and from Federal Way Downtown Station to Othello Station, according to the agency.

Sound Transit directed 1 Line shuttle buses to replace train service from Stadium Station to Othello Station.

An earlier news release said the 2 Line was also facing delays, but Enbysk said that isn't the case and 2 Line remains unaffected.

Service was expected to be restored around 9:15 p.m., she added.
