Edgewater Bridge between Everett, Mukilteo reopens Tuesday
The Edgewater Bridge between Everett and Mukilteo will reopen at the end of the workday Tuesday, the city of Everett said.
The $34 million construction project replaced the 80-year-old bridge, which runs along Mukilteo Boulevard and has been in the works since October 2024, according to the city's project page.
The new Edgewater Bridge "will serve drivers and pedestrians for the next 100 years," said Rep. Rick Larsen, top Democrat on the U.S. House's Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and whose district includes Everett and Mukilteo. The project received more than $28 million in federal funding.
The previous bridge was safe but had become "functionally obsolete, structurally deficient and currently operates under load restrictions," the city's project page reads. It was also vulnerable to seismic activity, so the replacement reduces potential for earthquake damage.
Everett and Mukilteo celebrated the bridge opening Monday afternoon. The two cities invited attendees to walk or bike across the replaced bridge before it opens to traffic.
"We know that closing Mukilteo Boulevard was an inconvenience for many," the cities said. "We want to thank the community for their patience throughout the project and as we work to complete the final tasks before opening the roadway."
Some tasks remain to be finished, such as permanent roadway striping, barriers, lighting and paint. The sidewalks on the bridge will be closed until the work is complete.
