No injuries were reported.

Crews were dispatched at about 7:33 a.m. to the 2200 block of 42nd Avenue in the West Longview neighborhood regarding a grass fire that spread to a home, according to a department notice.

The home is located just west of VCA Ocean Beach Animal Hospital.

Jennifer Baker was driving near the residence when she noticed the flames and smoke. She stopped her car, pounded on the door to alert the residents, ensuring the occupants were out, the notice states.

The Longview Fire Department also thanked Katey Ramirez for calling 911 and also warning the people inside the home of the fire. Another unnamed person used a garden hose to suppress the fire until crews arrived.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire damage to a single room and the portion of the roof above it. They say the home is still habitable.

"The Longview Fire Department is grateful for the citizens who step up to help their neighbors in times of need," the notice reads. "Your vigilance, quick thinking and willingness to take action make our community safer and are a big part of what makes Longview such a special place to live."
