A Portland woman was hospitalized Monday after her vehicle struck a deer on Interstate 5 in Cowlitz County, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

According to WSP, Kendra C. Watkins, 38, was driving a 2023 Toyota 4Runner southbound near milepost 52 at about 9:50 p.m. June 1 when a deer jumped from the median into the left lane.

The 4Runner and the deer came to rest on the right shoulder of the road after the collision.
