Forest Service to host meetings on Blue Mountains Forest Plan in early June

The U.S. Forest Service will host a series of public information sessions in June where residents can learn more about the revised Blue Mountains Forest Plan and upcoming comment periods.

The current forest plans for the Malheur, Umatilla and Wallowa-Whitman national forests were signed in 1990. The forest plans are being revised to include science, rules and laws that have been developed since then.

The plans will guide future project decisions by forest supervisors and district rangers, but the plans will not directly authorize specific projects or actions on the ground.

At the meetings, representatives from each forest will also share information about upcoming comment periods for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and the Draft Land Management Plan.

There are eight information sessions total planned across the region. The closest sessions are in Pendleton on Tuesday, June 2, and in Dayton on Wednesday, June 3.

The Pendleton session will be at the Vert Auditorium, 480 SW Dorion Ave., and the Dayton session will be at the Columbia County Fairground, 5 N. Pine St.

A full schedule of sessions is available on the Forest Service's website. All of the sessions will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m.
