Dry conditions wane for west Skagit County
The U.S. Drought Monitor reported last week that conditions for west Skagit County improved from being categorized as "abnormally dry" to "no drought."
This April was the 10th driest April on record in Skagit County. This includes the past 132 years.
The area from Fidalgo Island to about Concrete began to be classified as abnormally dry in early May.
Abnormally dry is a category that is not technically considered drought, but is an indication an area could be entering drought.
The U.S. Drought Monitor did last week categorize the very eastern tip of Skagit County, about 3% of the county, as abnormally dry.
While conditions improved for much of Skagit County, worsening conditions are expected later this summer.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center expects drought conditions to develop in all of Skagit County in the next three months.
