New bike repair station opens in La Conner
LA CONNER - La Conner has a new bike repair station at the restrooms on Morris Street.
The station is self-service and was completed mid-April after being a topic of discussion during La Conner Parks Commission meetings for the past few months.
During the March 11 Parks Commission meeting, Town Administrator Scott Thomas told the commission that the project had been funded and would proceed later in the spring.
The La Conner Town Council allocated $20,000 for the project in this year's budget, with the town's Public Works department completing construction.
The covered station includes a pump and other tools for minor repairs. Walking up, riders will find a QR code to scan for help with common bike repair issues.
The site offers instructions to repair a flat tire, inflate tires, adjust gears and brakes, and remove a wheel if needed.
Thomas said that during its opening weekend, the Morris Street station saw three or four riders come through. Thomas said those riders shared that their daily ride was saved by the new services.
Thomas also said that the repair station fits the bike-friendly atmosphere the town already offers, with wide shoulders along main roads and a variety of scenic routes.
The Morris Street restrooms are located near the intersection of Morris and Third streets in La Conner, directly across from Vintage La Conner Thrift Shop.
