Hanford guards to vote on tentative labor agreement

Hanford security guards will vote on a new contract Jan. 26 after a tentative agreement was reached late Monday night.

“There was good bargaining by both sides,” said Ed Pacheco, president of the Hanford Guard Union. Union officials are recommending a “yes” vote.

Guards will be working under a third contract extension through Jan. 26, after the current contract extension expires later this week. The contract with Mission Support Alliance initially had been set to expire at the end of October.

Details of the tentative agreement have not been disclosed, but some of the main issues under discussion have been disability retirement benefits, a company proposal to change the guards’ work schedule and a company proposal to make changes to seniority, according to the union.
