Tri-City area students release salmon at Columbia Park
Nathanael Boyle, a fifth-grader at Paterson School, climbs out of the mouth of a 25-foot fiberglass salmon Tuesday as classmates look on during the Salmon Summit at Columbia Park in Kennewick.
About 90 area fourth- and fifth-grade classes will participate in the annual two-day event, which continues Wednesday.
This event is sponsored by the Benton Conservation District. Students raised salmon in classrooms and were released into the river. After students release them at the east boat launch, they proceed to the east end of Columbia Park and spend the day going through educational stations.
