UPDATE: Kennewick man arrested after stabbing brother, woman (w/video)
A Kennewick man is in the hospital with stab wounds after trying to stop his brother from attacking a woman early Tuesday.
Phillmore Cole, 48, lives next door to his brother Rayfield Cole off Canal Drive in Kennewick.
Police were called at 5:43 a.m. about a fight at 900 N. Cleveland St., Apt. B.
They found Michelle Maldanado, 38, with stab wounds and cuts and Phillmore Cole with similar injuries.
Police say Phillmore Cole had come next door to stop his brother, Rayfield, from assaulting Maldanado and was also wounded.
There were some children in the apartment but none of them were harmed, said officials.
Both victims were treated at Trios Southridge Hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.
Rayfield was found inside another apartment and taken into police custody. After being checked by medics, he was booked into the Benton County jail on investigation of first- and second-degree domestic violence assaults.
The investigation is continuing, including interviewing witnesses and the children.
The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab Response Team is collecting evidence at the crime scene.
