Fiber optics project to begin near Columbia River
The Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District has issued a finding of no significant impact for the Zayo Eastern Washington/Oregon Fiber Optic Line Project.
The Corps consequently plans to issue an easement to Zayo Inc. for the construction, operation and maintenance of a fiber optic line on Corps-managed federal land on both sides of the Columbia River in Benton and Franklin counties in Washington and Umatilla County in Oregon. Zayo plans to install approximately 200 miles of fiber optic line from Ellensburg to Umatilla.
The Bureau of Reclamation is the lead federal agency for the project and prepared the environmental assessment and signed the same finding Feb. 26. The Corps solicited public comments on its draft finding June 20-July 5.
