KID sees water allotment increase to 94 percent

The Bureau of Reclamation has announced that water users with proratable water rights, including the Kennewick Irrigation District, will see an increase to 94 percent, up from 90 percent.

Increases may be partially attributed to milder temperatures, according to a KID news release. At this point in the water season, allotments are not anticipated to drop.

KID encourages customers to continue to practice water-efficient habits. Consider planting low-water vegetation, replacing lawn grass with Xeriscaping, reducing the number of watering days per week and limiting watering to no more than 30 minutes per zone.

High-efficiency devices, such as micro spray and drip-line irrigation, also can help reduce overwatering and apply water where needed.
