The Benton PUD Commission will hold a public hearing May 24 on a draft resolution that would oppose Initiative 732, the nation’s first carbon tax initiative.

It will be on the November ballot for Washington state voters.

The initiative would reduce the state sales tax by 1 percent and institute a carbon tax per metric ton of carbon dioxide on fossil fuels, including gasoline, consumed in the state.

The PUD public hearing will be at 9 a.m. at 2721 W. 10th Ave., Kennewick. The PUD plans to post its draft resolution at www.bentonpud.org on May 23.
