Richland forum set on state carbon tax initiative vote

Learn about the carbon tax initiative that will be on the November ballot for Washington state voters at a forum Sept. 30 in Richland.

The Benton-Franklin League of Women Voters and the Washington State University Tri-Cities Environmental Club have invited speakers from CarbonWA, the Audubon Society of Washington, the Washington State Labor Council and the Latino Community Fund.

Initiative 732 would tax carbon emissions generated by certain fossil fuels and electricity generated by fossil fuels in an attempt to cut emissions. The measure is designed to be “revenue neutral” by using tax swaps and rebates.

The discussion will be at 7 p.m. at the WSU Tri-Cities East Auditorium, Crimson Way.
