Following the 2025 launch of its second Sphere Class ship, Star Princess, Carnival Corp.-owned Princess Cruises is laying the groundwork for further expansion of its fleet with a new ship class.

As the new Star Princess sets a course for Seattle to headline Princess' largest-ever Alaska cruise season, Carnival Corp. is advancing its ongoing fleet enhancement strategy across its cruise lines with a plan for more next-generation Princess cruise ships to come.

On April 15, the cruise line announced new shipbuilding agreements with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to build three new cruise ships on a completely new platform designed to further enhance the Princess vacation experience for passengers.

Princess Cruises orders three Voyager Class cruise ships

The new Voyager Class will be Princess Cruises' largest and most advanced ship platform yet, building upon the Sphere Class platform and incorporating the latest guest-facing and marine technologies. The new 183,000-gross-ton ships will be the largest by capacity in the Princess Cruises fleet, accommodating approximately 4,700 passengers.

Designed for global travelers and diverse deployments, the new ships will feature completely reimagined outer decks, staterooms, and Piazza designs, combined with signature Princess Cruises experiences and venues that loyal passengers love.

"The Voyager class will delight both our loyal guests and attract the next generation of Princess guests. We have been leveraging extensive customer and agent research to strike the right balance between evolving our proven winners and introducing new concepts and partnerships grounded in what matters to our current and future guests," said Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha. "From exceptional dining and inviting pool environments to elevated entertainment and beautifully reimagined spaces throughout the ship, we are leaving no area untouched as we thoughtfully evolve the Princess experience."

Princess Cruises will share more details on the Voyager Class ship design, features, and amenities in the future.

Princess Cruises' first Voyager Class ship to debut in 2035

Princess Cruises' first Voyager Class ship is slated to be delivered in late 2035, with the second to follow in 2038, and the third in 2039. Together, the new ships will expand the Princess Cruises fleet from 17 to 20 ships.

Like Sun Princess and Star Princess, the Voyager class ships will be dual-fuel powered - primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), an advanced fuel technology that significantly reduces air emissions compared with other widely available conventional marine fuels.

"With the new Voyager-class ships, we are once again leveraging Fincantieri's distinctive expertise in sustainable, next generation shipbuilding, supporting Princess Cruises in its growth trajectory and reaffirming our role as a trusted industrial partner for the evolution of the cruise industry," said Fincantieri CEO and Managing Director Pierroberto Folgiero.

The new Voyager Class ships will be Carnival Corp.'s 19th, 20th, and 21st LNG-powered vessels, and follow the launch of seven additional new ships for Carnival Corp. cruise lines under contract that are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2033.

Carnival Festivale, Carnival Cruise Line's fourth Excel Class ship, will debut from Port Canaveral in May 2027, as the next new ship to join the Carnival Corp. fleet.
