54 Years Ago Today: Legendary Rock Band's Classic Album Reaches No. 1 in the UK

Wednesday marks 54 years since one of the best-selling rock albums in music history reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom.

June 10 marks several significant moments in music history. Forty-eight years ago today, "You're The One That I Want" from Grease by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Two of the greatest singers of their respective eras, Kim Deal (65) and Faith Evans (53), celebrate their birthdays today. Additionally, the late Roberta Flack released "Feel Like Makin' Love" on this very day in 1974.

Today is also a special day in history for The Rolling Stones. On June 10, 1972, one of their signature albums reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart.

Exile on Main St., The Rolling Stones' 10th studio album, was released on May 12, 1972. The album featured "Tumbling Dice," a future top-10 hit in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The other notable songs on the album included "Sweet Virginia," "Rocks Off," "Happy" and "All Down the Line."

‘Exile on Main St.' Reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 One Week Later

One week after claiming the top spot on the UK Albums Chart, Exile on Main St. reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200. The album held the top spot in four consecutive weeks before Elton John's Honky Château took over on the week of July 15.

However, Exile on Main St. held the No. 2 spot for two consecutive weeks. Alice Cooper's School's Out knocked it down to No. 3 for the week of July 29.
