Netflix Series Scores Season Renewal Despite Major Viewership Slump
Good news for fans of the BBC-Netflix series A Good Girl's Guide to Murder - the mystery-thriller has been renewed for a third season, despite previous reports of disappointing viewing figures.
Last week, the Emma Myers-led show, despite a positive reception, was thought to be in danger of cancellation, following a reported ratings drop between Seasons 1 and 2. According to data accumulated by What's on Netflix, A Good Girl's Guide to MurderSeason 2 brought in a mere 1.8 million views in its first week on the streaming service, compared to 7.4 million views in its first week on Netflix for Season 1.
Despite this slump, Varietyconfirmed on Thursday that A Good Girl's Guide to Murder would receive a third - and final - season after all. While the series' 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes may have helped convince Netflix to produce more episodes of the show (along with the British Broadcasting Corporation), the entertainment outlet has stated Season 3 is ready to go.
Season 3 of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, according to Variety, has already been shot and wrapped, and will premiere on Netflix in 2027. However, perhaps due to production costs versus views, Season 3 will consist of just four episodes, down from six for Season 2.
While no exact return date other than next year has been confirmed for the British-American series, cast members Zain Iqbal, Henry Ashton, Asha Banks, Jude Morgan-Collie, Eden H Davies, and Yali Topol Margalith are all reportedly set to return for the third and final season, alongside Myers.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is one of many Netflix shows that have recently faced a serious viewership drop in its second season, with fellow Netflix Originals Beef and The Four Seasons also failing to claw back their audience from Season 1, despite positive reviews for all three shows.
