Mama Hen Accidentally Hatched a Mix of Chicks and Ducklings, and the Result Is Beautiful Chaos

Sometimes accidents are absolutely wonderful.

Case in point with this mother hen who hatches baby chicks and ducklings, creating a beautiful, chaotic family in this new viral video.

We see in this heartwarming video that this devoted mother hen isn't only taking care of her four biological chicks, but she also has seven little ducks as part of her clan, too, and she couldn't be happier.

We're not quite sure how the little ducks got into the henhouse, but maybe their mom wasn't unable to take care of them and got them to a safe place first.

And this hen is stepping up to take care of her beautifully mixed family.

It's so heartwarming!

As you can imagine, the comments section was lit.

One commenter quoted the famous Reba McEntire song: "Just a single mom who works two jobs who loves her (mixed) kids and never stops... she's a survivor."

"Not the stepmom, but the mom that stepped up," another said.

"She's going to FREAK when half of her kids casually go into the water," a person commented.

Why Do Hens Brood on Other Birds' Eggs?

You may be wondering how something like this happens.

First of all, you need to understand what brooding is.

Brooding is a behavior exhibited by female birds of sitting on eggs to keep them warm, aka, incubation.

This is also known as "going broody," and birds can get very intense during this time.

It is almost like the birds enter a trance and will not move from that spot so they can keep the eggs warm.

If you try to gather eggs from her, she may peck you.

What's interesting is that during this time of brooding, the hen will sometimes sit on eggs laid by other hens or other birds (such as a duck) or even objects that resemble eggs, as they can't tell the difference when they're in this state.

So clearly, this mother hen came across these duck eggs and started brooding, resulting in her being an adoptive mother.

Luckily, as we see in the video, these ducks have access to a pond and grass, so they're in the perfect place.
