Eli Lilly to acquire Bothell's Curevo Vaccine for $1.5 billion

Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly plans to buy a biotechnology company in Bothell for $1.5 billion.

The acquisition of Curevo Vaccine, which develops vaccines for shingles and chickenpox, was announced Tuesday. Curevo and Lilly didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

It's one of three agreements made public by Indianapolis-headquartered Lilly on Tuesday. It also plans to purchase two other biotechnology companies: U.S.-based Vaccine Company for $1.6 billion and Switzerland's LimmaTech Biologics for $780 million.

Lilly is recognized for products like antidepressant Prozac and erectile dysfunction medication Cialis, along with weight loss drugs, such as Zepbound and Foundayo. It recently shared positive results from the clinical trials of retatrutide, another weight loss medication.

The deal with privately held Curevo - known for its lead product candidate, amezosvatein - is still pending due to customary closing conditions," per a news release.

Its leadership cheered the move.

"Lilly's global development and commercialization capabilities will accelerate and expand upon amezosvatein's significant potential, CEO George Simeon said in a news release.
