Kelso Fibre Federal branch to close for renovations
Fibre Federal Credit Union is preparing to close the lobby to one of its Kelso branches later next month as it embarks on another series of sweeping renovations.
But officials say their main branch in Longview is nearly ready to reopen after its own multi-month remodel.

The financial services center, at 1003 13 Ave. S in Kelso, will close its lobby for several months starting in June as crews work to open up the space and make it more inviting for the credit union's members. The renovation is the 3,700-square-foot branch's first since it opened in 2010.
The Kelso lobby closure will occur only after construction on two drive-up lanes is complete, according to a news release from the credit union. Once complete, it will "feature improved flow of space, (an) enhanced member experience and the latest technology."

The Kelso branch renovation is the second overhaul the credit union has undergone this year. In January, Fibre Federal temporarily closed its main financial services center at 822 Commerce Ave. in Longview for its own sweeping remodel.
Construction on the Commerce Avenue branch is "moving right along," according to an email Wednesday from Angie Shipman, a senior vice president and chief experience officer at Fibre Federal.
Shipman said that the credit union is hoping to reopen the main Longview branch potentially in June, but they are still working to firm up an exact opening date.
More reps
In addition to new, more open floor plans, the renovated branches will also feature more experienced and cross-trained financial services representatives.

A representative from the credit union told The Daily News in December that the new branches are built around the concept of "universal employees." In short, many of their front-facing representatives are being cross-trained to offer the specialized skills of tellers and personal bankers.
Other branches remain open
The standalone Kelso location opened in 2010 and hadn't been updated since. While closed, the credit union encourages its members to use nearby branches, online banking services, or by phone, chat or appointment.
Fibre Federal's Triangle Financial Services Center is at 800 Triangle Center in Longview, and its west Kelso branch is at 102 NW Fifth Ave.
