What Was Spirit Airlines' Last Flight? Plus, See Footage of the Last Plane Landing

After roughly 62 years in business (34 of which as the scheduled passenger service many came to know the company by), Spirit Airlines has officially closed its doors… for now, at least. Sadly, as stated on the company's website:

"It is with great disappointment that on May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately. To our Guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry over the last 34 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come."

ABC News reports that means as many as 277 flights that passengers were hoping to travel on Saturday, May 2, have officially been cancelled, leaving them to make other arrangements. In terms of Spirit Airlines' employees, ABC News also shares that Spirit "is working to get more than 1,300 crew safely home to their bases." Additionally, a spokesperson for the airline notes that a majority of its employees learned they were about to lose their jobs through media coverage.

With all of that being said, just what was the last flight for Spirit? Also, is the company gone for good?

Last Spirit Airlines Flight Traveled from Detroit to Dallas

Flight 1833, traveling from Detroit to Dallas, was the last official flight of Spirit Airlines. It touched down in the Texas city at roughly 1:08 am ET, ahead of the company's 3:00 am ET shutdown. Raws Alert on X (formerly Twitter) captured footage of the flight landing.

Can the Federal Government Still Save Spirit?

The short answer is possibly. Prior to suspending service, Spirit Airlines was in talks with the federal government for a $500 million rescue deal. However, that deal was not formalized prior to the company's May 2nd closure announcement. At the time of publication, it appears that there still could be a path forward to a federal bailout for the airline, as it was just on May 1st when President Trump suggested a deal was possible as long as it was "a good deal." But again, for now, Spirit Airlines remains closed.
