Capybara Is Not a Fan of Her Leash Training Plan and It's Hilarious

Teaching animals new behaviors-or even simple tricks-can pose unique challenges, especially because not all animals are eager participants. The training process typically requires patience, flexibility, and most importantly, the right treats to keep them motivated.

Pinto is one of several capybaras who live at the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas. The staff at the park take the animals under their wing, treating them like family. Keeper Ellie recently started working on some harness training with Pinto, and the TikTok video of the encounter will crack you up!

The video narrator jokes that it would be so much fun if Pinto could walk around the wildlife park, greeting guests. Keeper Ellie explains, "Today is day one of teaching Pinto how to put on a harness." Meanwhile, the capybara sits in the background, showing exactly zero enthusiasm for the assignment.

As Ellie sits on the enclosure floor, Pinto's sweet little friend, Garbanzo Bean, is more than willing to demonstrate how the harness works... mostly because there's a lettuce snack involved. Pinto, on the other hand, still seems firmly on the "Don't sign me up for leash walking" list.

Eventually, after quite a long wait, Pinto finally lets Keeper Ellie clasp one of the buckles around her-but that's as far as the cooperation goes. She quickly decides that's her full level of participation for the day, and the resulting standoff to remove the harness takes almost as long as it did to convince her to put it on in the first place.

Humorous Reactions From Pinto's Fans

Tanganyika Wildlife Park has had several videos go viral, specifically those featuring Mars, the Pygmy Hippo, and Not Dwayne, the clueless giraffe. Many fans are thrilled to now see videos of the capybara Bean family popping up on their #foryoupage.

One TikToker declared, "Now, Pinto content is the content we all need!" while another follower joked, "Well, I think Garbanzo is clearly volunteering, so let's make everyone's lives easier, hmm?"

I, for one, can't wait to see how this new Pinto, the capybara, "season" plays out!
