A Golden Retriever did his best to "whisper bark" when his mom asked him to, and it's the best video on the internet.

In a TikTok video posted on April 20, the adorable dog's mom gently asked him to try the "whisper bark," a quiet, gentle bark. In the video, the dog's first attempt was too loud, so his mom told him to be more "quiet."

She then made sure to demonstrate exactly how she wanted the sweet pup to "whisper bark," which he listened to very intently. Once he thought he had gotten the hang of it, he made his second attempt, which ended up being almost perfect.

In the end, the pup made the softest bark, exactly what his mom wanted, and she praised him, saying, "That's a better one."

Can you teach a dog to whisper bark?

While the idea of a whisper bark seems too good to be true, it is a trick that pet parents can try to teach their dogs. Like teaching a dog any trick, it takes plenty of practice, patience, and a good handful of treats.

According to Wag's blog, teaching a dog to whisper-bark is similar to teaching them other commands like "speak" or "quiet," but it requires a different command so they don't mix them up.

One option Wag recommends is the "gentle whisper method," which requires the pet parent to whisper to their dog in a quiet place so the dog can bark. This method requires providing treats on demand to give the pup a clear idea of what you're trying to teach.

Another method is the "treat method," which requires you to give your pup a treat every time they bark. Then, after each bark and treat, use the "Whisper" cue and gesture to encourage quiet barking. Once the barks get quieter, then you can provide more treats then.

Once the dog gets a hang of it, it's important to practice and repeat the command so that they can truly learn the art of the whisper bark.
