There are moments on the internet when you have to pause and ask yourself if what you're seeing is real, and this is absolutely one of them.

Because yes, this is a real fish. And yes, the fish really does look like it applied a perfect red lipstick and decided to go for a walk, like it has somewhere to be.

And yes, it's actually real and not ai. The red lip batfish is a unique fish from the Galapagos Islands known for walking and it's very red lips. #ocean#unique#wild#wow#ugly

The TikTok video was shared by @wanderingintrigue with the caption, "And yes, it's actually real and not AI," which honestly feels necessary. The Red-Lipped Batfish, found around the Galapagos Islands, is known for its bold coloring and its very specific habit of walking along the ocean floor instead of swimming like most fish.

And when this fish walks, it walks with confidence. It's got swagger. Like it just got ready for the day and expects to be noticed.

The comments immediately turned into a mix of awe and mild existential crisis. One person wrote, "There are times when I think I can handle aliens on earth, then something like this crosses my FYP, and I can say with certainty, nope, nope… I can't!" which feels fair. Completely fair.

Another said their girls would take one look and yell, "MATERIAL GIIIRRLL!" and honestly, they wouldn't be wrong. The energy is very much "I didn't do all this lip work for nothing."

"Wow, nature is so amazing," showed up, which is true, but also feels like an understatement given the situation. And then, of course, someone joked, "Also known as the mother-in-law," which… I'm staying out of that one, but I did laugh.

There's just something about this fish. The lips. The attitude. The slow, deliberate walk. It's giving confidence. It's giving presence. It's giving a level of self-assurance I personally don't have before coffee. And it's way better at wearing red lipstick than I am.

The Red-Lipped Batfish isn't just known for its dramatic look; it's also one of the more unusual fish species in the ocean.

Instead of swimming most of the time, this fish uses its modified fins to "walk" along the ocean floor, which makes it stand out immediately from other fish.

Those bright red lips may help with species recognition or attracting mates, though they mostly just make it look like it's constantly ready for a photo.

Fun fact: The Red-Lipped Batfish has a small structure on its head called an illicium, which acts like a lure to attract prey. It's basically a built-in fishing tool.

It also prefers deeper waters as it matures, meaning the younger ones are more likely to be spotted closer to shore.

So yes, it's real. It walks. It has better lips than most of us. And it somehow makes perfect sense once you accept that the ocean is just doing whatever it wants at this point.
