The Mondegreens’ sound is a little hard to define.

Perhaps that’s because three of the band’s four members contribute tunes, each bringing something a little different to the mix.

“We have a lot of shared influences,” said David Friedlander, singer and bass player. “But we also have different hues in our (respective) color wheels.”

The result is a unique type of harmony-driven, folk-tinged indie rock — the kind that can run from dusty, shambling Americana to bright and modern in a single set.

The Seattle-based band will be in Kennewick on Nov. 20 for a show at The Roxy Bar and concert venue, 101 W. Kennewick Ave., Suite 201.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m. The local rock band Shipwreck Soul is opening.

Along with Friedlander, The Mondegreens includes Jack Knight on vocals and lead guitar, Russell Rabut on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Scotty Jenkins on drums.

Friedlander, Knight and Rabut — the crew’s songwriters — all met at Chico High School in Chico, Calif.

Raised on musical greats from The Beatles to the Grateful Dead, the guys “got together around the fact that nobody else in our high school liked to play our kind of music,” Friedlander said.

They went their separate ways for college, but reunited to play on school breaks.

Jenkins also hails from Chico, although he attended a rival high school. He joined The Mondegreens after the previous drummer parted ways amicably with the group last winter.

The guys have played shows throughout California, the Northwest and beyond. They all relocated to Seattle earlier this year.

Their album, Kid Tell Time, is available on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp.

Friedlander said it’s been fun and rewarding to pursue music with his friends.

“I feel like I’m incredibly lucky — I feel like kind of the luckiest person to have stumbled into this partnership,” he told the Herald. “That I get to hang out with three of the people I care about most in the world, and people seem to enjoy hearing us do what we like doing best — it’s really indescribable.”

The Nov. 20 show costs $5. Tickets are available through www.ticketfly.com and at the door.
