Former Tri-City American Scott Gomez hits hole-in-one at charity event

I've been covering Olie and Stu's Desert Bash charity golf tournament for years, but never has anyone won a car for a hole-in-one.

Maybe they ought to start inviting former Tri-City Americans forward Scott Gomez.

Gomez, who played two seasons for the Americans (1997-99), hosted his own charity golf tournament Thursday in Anchorage, where he hit an ace on the par-3 sixth hole at the Eagleglen Golf Course at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The feat earned him a $50,000 Acura MD X.

The hole-in-one is half of the amount of goals (2) Gomez scored last season in 38 games for the Montreal Canadiens.

There are several stories one Gomez's feat, but this one from the Anchorage Daily News covers it all.

Other sites offered a few barbs, including:

"Good for Scott, I don't know what kind of car he received but maybe the built-in GPS can show him how to drive to the net."

"He can hit a hole in one but can't hit a 4x6 hockey net???"

"Man, a hole in one and a goal scored in the same year. Things are looking up for Scotty!" "In Gomez’ defense, there aren’t goalies knocking away his putts. Also they put a giant flag in the hole so you know where to aim. Maybe that’s Montreal’s next move – a flag stick over the opposing goal. Gomez could win the Rocket Richard Trophy."
