Here's the Dust Devils' alumni update for April 6:
Low A — In the Asheville Tourists’ South Atlantic League opener, Delmarva topped Asheville 7-2. Taylor Featherston (2011) went 1-for-2 with a run and two walks. Vianney Mayo (2011) took the loss (7h, 5r, 4bb, 4.1 IP)
High A — It can’t get much worse than Modesto’s 15-3 loss to San Jose. Three former Dust Devils pitchers — starter Josh Slaats (2010), Josh Hungerman (2009-10) and Kraig Sitton (2010) — allowed 15 runs (nine earned) in 5 2/3 innings.
Double A — In the Texas League, the Tulsa Drillers lost 5-1 to San Antonio. Kent Matthes (2009) drove in the only run for Tulsa with an RBI double. He also threw out a runner at home from right field.
Triple A — In the Pacific Coast League, Tim Wheeler (2009) went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a run scored, but Colorado Springs lost 9-5 in Reno. Zach Simons (2005), who played in the Detroit Tigers’ system for four years before being re-signed by the Rockies in January, had a rough night. The former second-round draft pick gave up five runs — just two earned — on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Major leagues — Bad night for the Rockies’ farm system, but the big club won 5-3 on the road in Houston. Rex Brothers (2010) pitched a perfect eighth inning to set up closer Rafael Betancourt.
Tune in tomorrow for another update.
