With Southridge trailing Kennewick 20-19 in the second set of its Class 3A Eastern Washington Regional match at Kennewick on Tuesday, sophomore Kylie Fraga showed what it means to be tough.
During a mad scramble to get the ball back over the net, Fraga had her eyes on the ball as did a teammate. Said teammate then bumped the ball and inadvertently punched Fraga in the mouth.
The ball fell in for a point and a 20-20 tie, while Fraga immediately grabbed her face and bent over in pain.
She shooed away a couple of teammates while in obvious pain and then continued to play. You could tell it was bothering her, as she appeared to be crying, but she toughed it out and had a few sets and a few digs, all while dealing with what had to be a lot of pain.
Southridge eventually lost the match and had its season come to an end, but it certainly wasn’t because of the play of Fraga, who showed what overcoming obstacles in sports truly means.
