A pair of players from Kennewick High’s state championship baseball team of 2008 are making good in college ball at Whitworth.
Landon Scott was named to the NCAA Division III All-West Region second team after leading the Pirates with a .389 average (fourth in the Northwest Conference), 58 hits (third in NWC), a .611 slugging percentage, six home runs and 38 runs. It is the second consecutive season Scott has been named to the team.
Another former Lion, Kevin Valerio, received a West Region Gold Glove after making just a single error in 133 chances. Valerio was a NWC second-team selection, Scott a first-teamer.
Both players are juniors and are playing summer ball — Scott with the Atwater Aviators in Merced, Calif., in the Far West League; and Valerio for the Manitowac Bandits of the Northeastern Wisconsin League along with graduated teammate Liam O’Brien of Prosser.
