After thinking I had done my due diligence on draft day, I found out Friday that Taylor Vickerman wasn't the second Mid-Columbia hockey player to taken in the WHL draft — he was No. 3.
In 2003, the Spokane Chiefs took Seth Compton in the fifth round (92nd overall) and goalie Brett Bergum of Kennewick was taken in the 11th round (219th overall) by the Red Deer Rebels. Brett's mom left me a nice voicemail to this fact. I checked the Herald archives, and sure enough, there he was. I even wrote the story. I guess since he never played for Red Deer or any other team in the WHL, he slipped through the ice.
I now have a list on my desktop of Mid-Columbia players drafted in the WHL — which now totals 4.
