Just read a release from the Wenatchee AppleSox that former Southridge and Columbia Basin standout Thomas Henderson will be playing summer baseball in the Apple Capital of the World.
Henderson was one of four Gonzaga players the AppleSox announced Thursday are headed the club’s way, joining outfielder Payden Crawley Lamb and pitchers David Bigelow and Aaron Brooks.
The West Coast League is one of many summer wood-bat leagues for college players to hone their skills. The Walla Walla Sweets opened play in the league last season.
I was working in Wenatchee when the AppleSox started up in 2000, the product of Jim Corcoran’s persistence to bring a baseball team to the area.
Previously, he came close to landing a Western Baseball League club, only to have stadium negotiations fall through and — legend has it — lose the team to the Tri-Cities — and thus the Posse was formed.
