WIAA releases state basketball brackets

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association recently released the 2010-11 state basketball brackets.

There are a number of changes, including placing in the brackets being setup in advance, rather than waiting for a pairings draw the Sunday before the tournaments.

In Class 4A, the top two teams from the Eastern Washington regional tournament will play each other for a state berth Friday, Feb. 25 at Richland High. The No. 3 seed from the Eastern Washington regional will face the No. 8 seed from District 3/4 the same day in an elimination game. The winner of that game will face the loser of the other game for a berth to state Saturday, Feb. 26.

In Class 3A, the top seed from CBBN will play the top seed from District 8, the Spokane area district for a state berth. That game will be played Friday, Feb. 25 at Spokane Falls Community College. Also that day will be an elimination game between the No. 2 seed from CBBN facing the No. 2 seed from District 2, which is the KingCo league. The winner of that game will face the loser of the other game in Spokane for a berth to state.

In Class 2A, the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds from Eastern Washington regional will play Friday, Feb. 25 at Central Washington University for a berth to state. Also at Central, the Eastern Washington regional’s 3 and 4 seeds will face off in an elimination game. The winner of that game will face the loser of the other game for a berth to state Feb. 26 at CWU.

In Class 1A, the No. 1 seed from the SCAC will play the No. 2 seed from District 6/7 on Feb. 25 at Eisenhower in Yakima with a state berth on the line. The No. 2 seed from SCAC will face the No. 1 seed from District 6/7 at Mead in Spokane the same day. In elimination games, the No. 3 seed from SCAC will face the No. 5 seed from District 1/2/3 at Eisenhower, while the SCAC’s No. 4 seed will face the No. 3 seed from District 6/7 at Mead.

The winners of the elimination games will face the losers from the other games for the final Eastern Washington state berths.

In Class 2B, the No. 1 seed from Southeast 2B will face the No. 2 from District 5/6 at University High in Spokane with a berth to state on the line. The loser of that game, will face the winner of District 7’s No. 2 seed and District 5/6’s No. 3 seed for another state berth.

The No. 2 seed from Southeast 2B will play the No. 3 seed from District 7 at Wenatchee High in an elimination game. The winner of that game will face the loser of District 7’s No. 1 seed and District 5/6’s No. 1 seed for another state berth.

In Class 1B, the Southeast 1B’s No. 1 seed will face District 7’s No. 1 seed for a berth to state, with the loser facing the winner of the District 5 No. 2 seed-District 7 No. 3 seed matchup at Walla Walla High.

The Southeast 1B’s No. 2 seed will face District 7’s No. 2 seed in an elimination game at Eastmont High in Wenatchee. The winner of that game will face the loser of the District 5’s No. 1 seed-District 6’s No. 1 seed matchup for another state berth.

Got it all now? Heck, I don’t think I understand what I just wrote, but that’s the state brackets for you.

The Class 3A and 4A state tournaments will be March 3-5 at the Tacoma Dome, while the Class 1A and 2A state tournaments is March 3-5 at Yakima’s Sundome. The Class 1B and 2B state tournaments will also be held March 3-5 at Spokane’s Veteran’s Memorial Arena.
