Call it the cross country season that wouldn’t end. Or maybe the season that just kept giving.
A slew of area runners were on the course Nov. 21 for the Nike Borderclash in Beaverton, Ore., including Kamiakin’s Anthony Armstrong, who finished fourth in the boys race in 14 minutes, 4.59 seconds on the 4.4K course.
Hanford’s Erin Hegarty placed 10th in the girls race in 16:42.07. Richland’s Katie Mahoney (24th, 17:06.17) and Maggie Jones (27th, 17:07.77) sandwiched Kamiakin’s Michell Fletcher (25th, 17:07.23).
Kamiakin’s Sephanie Rexus (42nd, 17:34.92) and Walla Walla’s Rachel Nelson (72nd, 18:45.83) also ran for Washington, which won the team score 17-46.

Hermiston’s Katie Markwick finished 59th (18:03.77) running for Oregon.
Walla Walla’s JP Wolpert (32nd, 5:21.5) and Aaron Nelson (35th, 5:22.9) also ran in the boys race, which Washington dominated 16-47.
A quartet of Hermiston boys competed: Eduardo Juarez, 50th (14:54.47); Andrew Valdez (64th, 15:12.21); Juan Delgado (66th, 15:14.62) and Javier Velasco (69th, 15:17.68).
Armstrong still has one final race to this season, running Saturday at Nike Nationals in Portland.
