McColm joins Yellow Horn with Allen Americans

Former Tri-City Americans defenseman Mitch McColm had to feel right at home when he signed with the Allen Americans of the CHL this week.

Not only is he wearing an Americans jersey, but he joins a roster that includes former Tri-City Americans forward Colton Yellow Horn and former Spokane Chiefs Judd Blackwater and Dustin Donaghy (must be hard for them to pull that jersey on).

McColm is schedule to play tonight for the Americans when they hit the road to take on the Laredo Bucks. He will wear No. 55.

Yellow Horn leads the Allen Americans with 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists and a plus-8).

McColm, 21, who finished his final WHL season with Chilliwack and Regina last year, played a handful of games for the Florida Everblades (ECHL) before being released Nov. 2.

There is video on the Everblades website of one of McColm’s fights — actually two fights in the same game against the Greenville Road Warriors: floridaeverblades.com.

According to comments on Woody Wommack’s Blades blog, a lot of people were not happy to see Mitch go. They believe the team will “have less brawn” and “he appeared to be about the only one who is willing to drop ‘em. That’s is really my only complaint with this team — no toughness being shown.”

In news out of the Mississippi RiverKings (CHL) camp, Alex Pechurskiy seems to have arrived just in time. The RiverKings placed goalie Larry Sterling on the 10-day injured list.

The RiverKings play at the Rapid City Rush today. Be interesting to see if Alex gets the start.
