Gordie Howe, denim jerseys

I just want to take a moment to thank you all for visiting my blog the month of October. The Red Light District finished second among viewers for Tri-City Herald blogs behind Mr. Movie (I can’t compete with the big screen).

I am adding more league notes and interesting items from around the league so you can get a feel for the league as a whole, not just our little corner of the world.

Below are notes out of Vancouver and Saskatoon (make sure to check out the pictures). Maybe Mr. Hockey will come visit our little rink some day.

Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe is in Vancouver tonight for the Giants-Kelowna Rockets game. The legendary Hall-of-Famer will be joined by his sons, Mark and Marty.

The first 5,000 fans through the doors at Pacific Coliseum will receive a commemorative photo, and of those, 99 lucky fans will win a limited-edition lithograph signed by all three Howes and get a chance to meet the Howes during the game.

The Saskatoon Blades will wear denim jerseys Nov. 12 against the Portland Winterhawks.

The Blades, along with Wrangler Jeans, have come up with a special denim jersey to highlight the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Cup National Finals being held in Saskatoon on Nov. 19-20.

The jerseys, though not actually made of denim, look very much like a jean jacket, with faux white stitching and pockets.

They aren’t as bad as the plaid Don Cherry homage worn by the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs last season.
