Around the WHL

The Red Deer Rebels are coming to town Saturday, and fans will get a glimpse of Red Deer’s Andrej Kudrna — the WHL player of the week. Kudrna had four goals and three assists in two games last week, as the Rebels beat Vancouver and Saskatoon. Kudrna also was named CHL player of the week.

On the dotted line: Everett’s Landon Ferraro signed a three-year entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The captain of the Silvertips, Ferraro, 19, has five goals and six assists in 13 games this season. He was selected in the second round, 32nd overall, in the 2009 NHL draft by the Red Wings.

Trade winds: The Saskatoon Blades traded left-winger Curt Gogol, 19, and a 2011 eighth-round bantam draft pick to Chilliwack Bruins in exchange for Chris Collins, 18. Collins has the ability to play both center and left-wing.

Streak ends at 7: The Kootenay Ice had its seven-game win streak halted by Chilliwack on Tuesday as the Bruins handed the Central Division leaders a 6-2 loss in Cranbrook. Six different players scored for the Bruins.

Pickard Fence: Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 46 of 47 shots Tuesday in a 4-1 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. The T-birds were outshot 47-17.
