River View ready for Connell

Despite an up and down season, the River View football team still has a chance at the SCAC East division title tonight.

The Panthers (4-4, 4-1) will host Connell (7-1, 5-0) at 7 p.m. River View is coming off of a loss to No. 9 Zillah, while the No. 4 Eagles defeated Royal 50-14 last week.

“We’ve got nothing to lose,” River View head coach Brett Jay said. “We are at home, playing in front of our crowd. It’s for a league title. We are just going to go in and play with a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm and just enjoy the experience.”

The Panthers have a sound secondary, which should help slow Connell’s passing game. But River View may not have an answer for Connell running back Matt Hadley, who rushed for 303 yards and four touchdowns in the victory against Royal.

“We are going to go in the game hoping to contain him,” Jay said. “He is a great football player and just a good quality kid.”

Both teams have already clinched playoff spots.
